Who will win the election of KOLKATA MUNCIPAL CORPORATION, April 2020- (TMC &BJP)
Who will win the election of Kolkata Muncipal Corp, April 2020.
WHY BJP……
1. The BJP had won 18 of Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats, giving a
big jolt to the ruling Trinamool Congress which is headed by Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee.
2. Roy, one of the architects of the BJP’s good show in Bengal,
said the party will treat next year’s civic elections as a “mini general
election”.
3. A municipal election
is as important as the assembly elections and BJP have already started
preparing for it.BJP IS targeting a win in all 144 seats in the Kolkata
Municipal Corporation as well as other corporation polls in Siliguri, Asansol,
Howrah, among others,” he added.
4. Roy, along with BJP national general secretary and its West
Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya, ha campingened in the state every
alternate week to fine-tune its poll strategy.
5. The recent violence in Bhatpara is an indication of how the
CM has refused to accept the people’s mandate. BJP’s Arjun Singh had won the
Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat, under which Bhatpara assembly segment falls, by
over 14,000 votes.
6. Till now, over 15 corporators and 14 MLAs have joined the
saffron party. These include Roy’s son, Subhranghsu, who joined the BJP last
month after being suspended by the Trinamool Congress for six years for
anti-party activities. “Even in a by-election to the Bhatpara assembly seat,
BJP’s Pawan Kumar Singh had won by over 23,000 votes,” Roy said.
7. According to an official of BJP the state government has failed in every respect, including
delivery of welfare schemes. “The chief minister is telling people to not pay
heed to her own party members who have been asking money from people in order
to hand over government benefits.
WHY TMC…..
1."It has been
decided that TMC protest against CAA will continue till it is revoked. IT will
carry out a door-to-door campaign against both CAA and NRC and will be our poll
plank in the coming civic poll," said a senior TMC leader on condition of
anonymity.
2.TMC is at the
forefront of the opposition to the contentious CAA, proposed NRC and the NPR.
3.The party has
already conducted a survey to assess its support base and the penetration of
BJP in the state. The survey will play a key role in adopting the strategy and
in the selection of candidates for the civic polls, the sources said.
4.The civic polls, in
which about 60 per cent voters of the state will be eligible to take part, are
being tipped as the "mini assembly election" ahead of the crucial
2021 state polls.
5.The polls have
assumed significance as the BJP has emerged as a tough challenger to the ruling
Trinamool Congress by making deep inroads in the state and pushing the
opposition Congress and Left Front to distant third and fourth spots
respectively.
6.TMC
secretary-general Partha Chatterjee said the party will organise human chains
in various parts of the state to protest against the contentious law.
7.Party supremeo conducted three rallies in February to protest
against CAA and NRC," he added.
8.The BJP had bagged 18 of the 42 seats, just four
short of the TMC in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The TMC's tally had come down
from 34 in 2014 to 22 seats.
9. TMC has roped in
poll strategist Prashant Kishor and his team I-PAC to evolve strategies ahead
of the assembly elections in 2021.
Many state BJP leaders have also expressed apprehension that the
civic polls may end up like the 2018 panchayat elections during which
widespread violence had resulted in 34 per cent of the gram panchayat seats
going uncontested.
Despite its tall claims
of dislodging the Trinamool Congress (TMC) from power in West Bengal in the
2021 Assembly elections, the BJP has been unable to find its mayoral
candidate for more than 100 municipalities, including the Kolkata Municipal
Corpo...
The civic polls which
will cover about 60% of the state are being considered as the “semi final” to
the 2021 Assembly elections. The elections to 109 municipalities, including
KMC, are expected to be held in April.
BJP sources revealed that the decision was taken at a party meeting in Delhi attended by the party’s national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh, West Bengal president Dilip Ghosh along with several other senior state party leaders. “

the state and that in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) that will go to

Senior TMC leaders, including party MP and president of TMC youth wing
Abhishek Banerjee, who also happens to be nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee, along with poll strategist Prashant Kishor, held a closed-door
meet during the day with the party councillors, MLAs and MPs of KMC areas, and
discussed strategy for the upcoming elections.
According to the TMC sources, during the meeting, the leadership made it
amply clear that the sole criteria for getting a ticket will be the performance
of a councillor in the last five years.
The TMC have been in power in KMC for consecutive two terms since 2010.
According to the TMC sources, the survey report would play a key role in
adopting strategy and selection of candidates would be conducted for the
municipal polls.
The Trinamool Congress leadership has asked its party councillors in
Kolkata to ensure effective implementation of the "Didi ke Bolo"
(tell Didi) programme in the city, which would be one of the yardsticks for
getting a nomination in the KMC polls.
